This exceptional Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Extra Lightweight Takedown Rifle, manufactured in 1905, is a documented special-order example chambered in .25-35 W.C.F. and featuring highly desirable factory No. 6 panel scene engraving. The receiver displays a detailed bighorn sheep in a mountain setting on the left and a whitetail buck on a hillside on the right, surrounded by tight floral scrollwork and decorative borders in the style associated with Winchester Master Engraver John Ulrich. Additional special-order features include a 24-inch lightweight part-octagon barrel, half magazine, takedown configuration, light-pull trigger, Lyman combination front and two-leaf rear sights, and Lyman “cup disc” tang sight. The rifle is beautifully stocked in finely figured walnut with H-pattern checkering, a pistol grip with hard rubber grip cap, and crescent buttplate.
The rifle remains in very fine condition, retaining approximately 90% of its original blue finish, 70% of the vibrant original case colors, and more than 60% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate. The engraving remains crisp throughout, while the finely figured walnut retains most of its factory varnish and well-defined checkering with only scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent, this beautifully preserved rifle combines documented factory engraving, deluxe figured walnut, extra-lightweight construction, and numerous special-order features, making it an outstanding example of Winchester craftsmanship from the early 20th century.
