1895 Rifle .38 30 Inch Engraved Gold Inlay

$0.00

This exceptional Winchester Deluxe Model 1895 Flatside Lever Action Rifle, manufactured in 1897, is a documented factory exhibition engraved and gold-inlaid special-order rifle chambered in .38-72 Winchester. One of the early Model 1895 rifles produced with the desirable flatside receiver, it features a 30-inch half-octagon barrel, pistol-grip stock, shotgun butt, and highly figured walnut with factory F-pattern carving and checkering. The receiver is decorated in the factory No. 9 engraving pattern, featuring circular panel scenes of whitetail bucks on both sides surrounded by elaborate floral scrollwork and decorative borders. Additional scroll engraving extends to the barrel, with a striking gold-inlaid band at the breech, giving the rifle an especially elegant exhibition-grade appearance.

The accompanying Cody Firearms Museum factory letter confirms the rifle’s remarkable special-order configuration, including the engraving, fancy checkered pistol-grip stock, gold band and scrollwork, 30-inch half-octagon barrel, and shotgun butt. The rifle was later returned to Winchester for factory work and is described as very fine as factory refurbished for exhibition display, retaining more than 90% of its blue finish, vibrant case colors on the hammer, bright gold inlays, crisp engraving, and much of the factory varnish on the wood. Mechanically excellent, this highly ornamented Model 1895 combines early flatside production, factory exhibition engraving, gold inlay, carved deluxe walnut, and extensive factory documentation, making it a particularly distinctive example of early Winchester craftsmanship.
