This scarce Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Saddle Ring Trapper’s Carbine, manufactured in 1917, is chambered in .44 W.C.F. and fitted with the highly desirable 16-inch round Trapper’s-length barrel. The carbine features a traditional saddle-ring configuration, gumwood stock, blue finish, and sling swivels fitted to both the barrel band and underside of the stock. An import mark is present on the receiver. Its compact proportions and short factory-style configuration give this Model 1892 the distinctive appearance for which Winchester Trapper’s Carbines are known.
The carbine remains in very good condition, retaining much of a period-refinished blue finish with areas of light surface spotting and wear. The gumwood stock and forearm show light handling marks along with a couple of hairline cracks consistent with age and use. The bore is frosted with light pitting while retaining distinct rifling, and the action is described as mechanically excellent.
